Vaxholm Castle/ Vaxholm Kastell/ Vaxholm Fortress/ Vaxholm Slott. Actually a fortress, it was built in 1544 to guard the major sea route into Stockholm. It was home to soldiers, officers and their wives, servants and even prisoners. A military outpost grew up around it, and became the town of Vaxholm.
